Full service restored to Demorest water customers

DEMOREST - A water outage in the Fairview community of Habersham County caused by storm-related damage Wednesday afternoon has been repaired and full service has been restored to the area.

Demorest City Clerk Marlena Sosebee said a Demorest Water Department line on Fairview School Road broke as a result of a lightning strike.

The outage initially occurred around 4 p.m., with service coming back on line shortly before 9 p.m.

Customers in the areas of Fairvew School Road, Dixon Road, Cain Bridge Meadows and Fairview Court were said to be the most affected by the outage, and Sosebee said they could potentially be affected even after service was restored.

"After water service is restored you may experience some air and or discoloration of the water," Sosebee said. "This is to be expected and can be corrected by running your cold faucets for a while until the air is gone and/or the water clears up. Thank you for your patience."
