Suwanee Dep. Police Chief leaving for Peachtree City

SUWANEE—The city of Suwanee is losing a Deputy Police Chief and the city of Peachtree Corners is gaining a new Chief.

Deputy Chief Janet Moon announced her departure—effective August 12—at the Suwanee City Council's voting meeting Tuesday evening.

"The time here in Suwanee has been phenomenal. I've been able to see Suwanee grow," said Moon.

She's observed that growth for more than 13 years; her first day on the job was November 12, 2001.

"The people are wonderful. Staff level, city level, citizens, business owners...everybody here works to make sure everyone's part of the fabric in the city," said Moon.

She said the departure brings about a lot of mixed emotions.

"It was a hard decision to put in because I do love Suwanee. I wasn't submitting for the (Peachtree City) job because I was dissatisfied with anything. I felt like a lot of my work here in Suwanee had been done," said Moon.

The soon-to-be chief is bringing along 30 years of law enforcement experience. She started as a military police officer in 1985.

"Peachtree City is very Suwanee-esque. It's just a little bit larger, so I felt like it was a good fit. And I felt like maybe I could go down there and bring some of the same successes I've had here in Suwanee," said Moon.

An official "going away" party is planned for Thursday at Suwanee City Hall.
