LAWRENCEVILLE - A woman was arrested Tuesday when she attempted to enter an employee entrance of the Gwinnett Justice & Administration Center with a loaded gun.
According to a Facebook post by Gwinnett Police, the woman was stopped by deputies as she tried to enter through the employee entrance and subsequently, they located a firearm in her purse.
The post reported that the woman, Shashirekha Shetty, did not work at the courthouse and did not have a valid firearms permit. Police arrested her for carrying a weapon in an unauthoritied location.
The post said deputies did not know Shetty's motive, as she asked to speak with a lawyer immediately.

Great job this afternoon by our super stellar deputies providing security at the Gwinnett Justice & Administration Center! They stopped a woman attempting to enter through an employee entrance (that's a big no-no) and subsequently located a loaded firearm in her purse (even bigger no-no). The woman, identified as Shashirekha Shetty, does not work at the courthouse nor did she possess a valid firearms permit.
The exact nature of her visit to GJAC is unknown, as she immediately invoked her right to speak to an attorney. Our deputies immediately invoked their right to place her under arrest, charging her with OCGA 16-11-127 Carrying a Weapon in Unauthorized Locations.
If you watch Dateline NBC, 20/20 or any show on the ID Channel (I am so guilty of that), you already know that guns and courthouses just don't mix! Even if you live in a cave and never watch tv, you should know that you don't bring a gun into a courthouse.
