Weekend rains delay work on Cleveland Bypass; closure set for next Monday

CLEVELAND — Weekend rains have delayed a planned road closure that was to start today in Cleveland.

Crews have rescheduled the closure of Tesnatee Gap Valley Road at its intersection with State Route 115 to begin Monday, July 13, according to a statement from the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT). Approximately 500 feet of Tesnatee Gap Valley Road closest to the intersection with SR 115 will be closed to traffic for the grade of Tesnatee Gap Valley Road to be raised about 8 feet. The maximum time for the closure is 15 days, the intersection should reopen by July 28.

“With such a significant grade change, traffic cannot continue to use the roadway as the work occurs. The signed detour route is 3.6 miles long and will direct continue on SR 115 since it cant access Tesnatee Gap Valley Road to Wilford Ash Senior Parkway then to State Route 11/US 129 to the northern end of Tesnatee Gap Valley Road. Thank you for your patience as this work occurs,” said Harold Mull, GDOT District Construction Engineer.

The contract to build Phase One of the Cleveland Bypass in White County was awarded to Sunbelt Structures, Inc. of Tucker. This 1.97 mile long project begins at Hope Drive at US 129/SR 11 and extends northwest to SR 115.

The change in closure for the construction is contingent upon weather conditions.
