Arrest made in 2013 shooting of south Georgia mayor

By Associated Press

ALBANY, Ga. (AP) Authorities say a man has been arrested in the shooting of a south Georgia mayor.

WALB-TV reports that the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said U.S. Marshals arrested 31-year-old Nakia Jones, who is charged with aggravated assault. The charges stem from the shooting of Dawson Mayor Christopher Wright at his home on Halloween night in 2013.

Authorities say Jones, who was living in Albany, was booked into the Dougherty County jail. It wasn't immediately clear whether bond had been set or whether Jones has an attorney who could comment on the charges.

Wright suffered serious injuries in the shooting and his mother was also hurt. He was re-elected in November.

Dawson is about 25 miles northwest of Albany.
