ATLANTA — The FBI has called for all law enforcement to be vigilant about potential terrorist activity over the Fourth of July weekend, and Georgia officials are heeding the call, though they say there's been no evidence of any threat so far.

Jim Butterworth, Director of the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency told Georgia News Network his agency is operating under a heightened state of awareness and is closely monitoring media channels - including social media - for unusual activity.

"We are checking for any new information that might indicate that there is a specific threat, but I think it's important to go back to the idea that at this point, there is no specific threat anywhere in the state of Georgia," said Butterworth.

He said GEMA staff will be increased over the holiday weekend, and staff will be ready and available for immediate response if it's needed.
