Crawley sweeps USCS weekend with back-to-back wins

By Series PR

Tim Crawley swept the USCS Sprint Car Series victories over the weekend, as he scored the victory in Friday night’s feature at Diamond Park Speedway in Nashville, Ark., and followed that with a win in Saturday’s race at I-30 Speedway in Benton, Ark.

Friday night at Diamond Park Speedway, Crawley held off Mike Ward for the victory for the Atlanta based series. The win didn’t come easy, as Crawley sat through a ten minute rain delay on lap 15. He then had to fend of hard charging Nick Snyder over the final 10 laps for the win.

Snyder started seventh in the main event and charged past several more experienced drivers to challenge Terry Gray for the runner-up spot on lap 14. On lap 15, as the two approached the rear of the field, a car spun in front of the duo and collected Gray on the bottom of the track. Snyder assumed the second position behind Crawley for the restart as Gray pushed off and joined the field at the rear just as rain started to fall over the speedway.

After a 10 minute delay, while the cars paced the track, the field ran a quick three lap hot-lap session to test racing surface and received instructions to line up and get ready for the final 10 laps.

On the restart, Crawley chose the bottom of the race track and Snyder went to the high side to try to pass the veteran for the first five laps. Crawley then tested the high side for several laps. With two laps to go, Snyder appeared to almost spin out midway through turns three and four while driving in deeper every lap trying to steal the victory. This was all Crawley needed to put some distance between he and Snyder. He crossed the finish line with a five car length advantage for his third USCS win in a row at the fast 3/8 mile red clay oval.

Morgan Turpen, Blake Jenkins and Anthony Nicholson rounded out the top five.

Crawley started off the night’s racing action with a win in the six-lap Hoosier Tire Speed Dash. Turpen first heat, with Gray winning the second heat. Turpen pulled a four in the inversion, giving Robert Richardson garnered the K&N Pole Award.

On Saturday night, Crawley held off Zach Pringle for the win at I-30 Speedway.

Pringle took the lead on the initial start and led the first nine laps before Crawley overhauled him on the backstretch and made a pass in turn four coming to the flag stand on lap ten. From that point on Crawley had to hold off Pringle Derek Hagar for the top spot.

There were only two caution periods during the main event. One flew on lap three for a spin by Blake Jenkins. The second occurred when Justin Sturch spun on lap 18, giving Pringle and Hagar an opportunity to challenge Crawley. Their efforts were to no avail, as Crawley charged away to the victory.

Pringle finished in second, followed by Hagar in third, Brandon Hanks in fourth and A.G. Rains in fifth.

Nicholson won the Hoosier Speed Dash, while Hanks won the first heat and Tim Crawley won the second heat. Rains drove to victory in the third head, while and Marshall Skinner won in the fourth heat.

Skinner was the provisional pole starter after scoring the most passing points in heat race action, but after Hanks drew a four in the inversion, Pringle collected the K&N Filters Pole Award.
