Willie Allen claims third Nashville Pro Late Model victory

By Donnie Redd

NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Willie Allen has claimed victory lane at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville as home territory, as he scored his third Big Machine Records Pro Late Model Challenge Series win in a row and his 20th premier division win at the Nashville, Tenn. raceway.

Allen set the pace early in qualifying with a time of 19.114 seconds. The inversion of four placed him starting row two behind Michael Bolden. Two-time Daytona 500 winner Sterling Marlin led the field to the green flag, and paced the field until lap 18 when a hard hit by Casey Atwood brought out the red flag.

Marlin took off on the restart on lap 26 and continued to control the field. That was stopped for a second time when a violent crash involving the cars of Chase Chaffin, Bo Lamastus and Zach Johnson displayed the second red flag of the event.

Marlin led the 100 lap event until lap 70 when Allen took command after the final restart and led the field to the checkers for the victory. Marlin finished in second, with Austin Brawley in third, Preston Bores in fourth and Bolden in fifth.

The D & D Events Limited Late Model feature was all about Andy Johnson from the drop of the green to the checkered flag. Johnson, the 2008 NASCAR Late Model Stock Car champion at the fairgrounds returned for his first visit to the track of the seaton and set claim for the win. The event saw a caution on lap 28 with contact between the vehicles of Chaz Chaffin and Allen Carter. Chaffin retired from the event and Carter continued on for a runner-up spot to Johnson. Billy Schaffer finished third, with Paul Nogradi, Jr. in fourth and Jeffrey Belt in fifth.

Thomas Pannell took command from the start of the All Out Automotive Sportsman feature and led all 35 laps of the event en route to the victory. Tommy Climer finished second, followed by Billy Schaffer in third, Adam Adcock in fourth and Travis Ryman in fifth.

Jeffrey Belt set the early pace in the Super Street feature until Matt Barnes moved past on lap 25 and went on to score his first win of the season. Belt held on to finish second, with Tink Jackson third, Jeremy Newman in fourth and Carl Porter, Sr. in fifth.

Jerry Hendrixson Jr. led 16 of the 25 laps in the Showtime Moving & Delivery Pure Stock feature and appeared to be heading for a win. With nine laps to go, Donald Porter took the lead and went on to pick up the victory. Willie Coats, Michael Hunt, Ricky Grove and Landin Dickens rounded out the top five.

Ryan Arms had to start at the rear of the USA Motor and Machine Pro Mod feature due to mechanical issues that caused him to miss qualifying. Arms powered his way through the field, passing Matt Spurlock for the lead with 12 laps to go and going on to score the victory. Spurlock finished in second, with Lesley Best in third, Michael Kelly in fourth and Doug Lee in fifth.

Travis Owens led the Pest Doctor Front Runner field to the green, leading the first eight laps. Aaron Ashcraft took to the outside lane and powered his way to the top spot. Ashcraft paced the remaining 17 laps to score his first win of the season. Jason Taylor finished in second, with Hardy Krantz, Jr. third, Owens fourth and Daniel Harper fifth.

Jeff Green and Kevin Rollins paced the Vietti Chili Legends field, with Green dominating the caution free event to take the win. Rollins finished in second, with Dylan Fetcho in third, Preston Young in fourth and Wayne Grubb in fifth.

The Budweiser Baby Grand division made the first of three appearances at Fairgrounds Speedway Nashville Saturday night. Ronnie Binkley led the first lap before developing mechanical problems that ended his night. Chris Willis took command and led the remaining laps to take the win. Mark Cole, Joe McCloud, Tim Vincent and Tommy McPherson rounded out the top five.
