By AccessWDUN Staff

GAINESVILLE - The Hall County Master Gardeners are hosting the 2015 Garden Walk, a self-guided tour of seven Gainesville-area garden, this coming Saturady. on Saturday June 6.

“The showcased gardens on our 2015 Garden Walk each reflect the interests of the individual owners.  Each garden has its own personality and reflects the owners’ interpretation of garden concepts and ideas.  Most are a reflection of the Master Gardener owners’ passion, but two of the gardens are public treasures, Gardens on Green and Linwood Nature Preserve,” says Hall County Master Gardener President Sharon Van de Water.

The tour begins at the Gardens on Green is a cooperative effort between the Master Gardeners and the Hall County School System. It includes a Garden of Winners, a conifer garden, a native garden, a certified pollinator garden, a children’s vegetable garden and a deer resistant garden.

A sneak peek of the Linwood Nature Preserve is also on the schedule. The preserve is yet to be opened to the public and it is a model for Green Space Preservation. Highlights include a native plant specimen garden, rain garden and Memorial tree garden.

The other five gardens on the tour showcase a variety of gardens and allows the gardeners to share information on how to plant for sun, shade, privacy, deer resistance, incorporating art, water features and many other garden ideas.

"Stepping into someone else's garden can lead you to see your own garden with a new vision, or you can just enjoy the serenity and happy feelings that a garden can evoke. Touring this year’s mix of seven distinctive gardens will allow you to gain insight into working with challenges you may encounter in your southern garden.  So relax and enjoy your garden experience!” encourages Garden Walk co-chair Sarah Galshack.

Master Gardener volunteers will be at each garden to assist tourists and answer questions. Tourists may also choose a pass-a-long plant from a selection available at one of the gardens.

The walk is from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., rain or shine, on June 6. Tickets are $10 prior to June 6th, available at the Hall County Extension Office at 734 E. Crescent Dr. Gainesville (770-535-8293), or online at hallmastergardeners.com. Day-of tickets will cost $15 and may be purchased at all seven gardens. The locations of the seven gardens are also on the website.

The Hall County Master Gardeners are a group of approximately 160 classroom trained gardeners, whose volunteers help the staff at the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Office of Hall County transfer research-based information about gardening, horticulture and best practices to the public. The volunteers gave 14,355 hours of their time in 2014 on a wide variety of projects, pursuing their theme of “Beautification through Education”.
