GAINESVILLE — Riverside Military Academy (RMA) will host the 2015 Georgia Boys State program, a crash course in state and local governments, June 14-20.  The 2014 summer session was the organization’s inaugural year on the RMA campus, but 2015 marks the 75th session of Georgia Boys State.

Boys State is a week-long leadership action course is for rising male seniors who qualify for the program.

RMA rising seniors Irakli Bates, Austin Caldwell, Ethan Cobb, and Kevin Reale have all been selected to participate in Georgia Boys State , and another RMA cadet, Watson Thomas, will attend the Alabama Boys State program.

Georgia Boys State participants are instructed on Georgia political history, the law and court system, and parliamentary procedure.  Delegates learn the political process by organizing a mythical 51st state in which each level of government is managed by peer-elected representatives.  The Georgia Boys State session also includes a visitation day with representatives from a variety of colleges and universities.

Riverside faculty members Andy Jobson and Col. Robert Cagle are Boys State alumni.

The Boys State program was founded by the American Legion in 1935.  A number of Boys State graduates from across the U.S. have been elected to public office.  Visit www.dogboysstate.org to learn more about the Georgia Boys State program.
