Wreck involving church bus results in multiple injuries

TOCCOA - A head-on crash involving a church bus and a Lincoln Town Car left around 20 people hurt near Toccoa Thursday night.

The wreck happened at 8:24 p.m. on West Currahee Street (U.S. 123) at Christine Circle, near Smokin" Pig Barbecue just outside Toccoa.

The driver of the car was seriously injured and was flown to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

About 18 occupants of the Ford E-350 bus were injured and were taken to Stephens County Hospital, Habersham Medical Center, and Ty Cobb Regional Medical Center.

When medical personnel learned the scope of the wreck, two ambulances each were requested from Habersham and Franklin counties.

The bus is from Love and Hugs Christian Tabernacle in Conyers, and was headed to the Georgia Baptist Conference Center for a retreat.

The Georgia State Patrol is investigating and said it likely will be Friday afternoon before full details are released.
