NEWNAN -- Gainesville prep golfer Spencer Ralston began his summer tournament schedule with a bang this week, winning the Orchard Hills Junior Classic in Newnan by firing an 18-under-par 126 over 36 holes.
The rising Gainesville High senior carded rounds of 62 and 64 and won his 16-19-year-old age group by 10 shots and the overall Championship by 8 shots.
Wednesday's round of 62 and the 126 total for 36 holes are both personal bests in tournaments for Ralston, who will compete in a U.S. Open Sectional qualifier on June 8 at Hawks Ridge Golf Club in Canton -- where the top finishers can earn a spot in the U.S. Open.
Joe Carter, also from Gainesville, also notched an impressive tournament, shooting 76-74 for a two-day total of 150, placing second in the 12-13 division.
