Interim Gainesville City Manager announced

GAINESVILLE - Melody Marlowe, the city's Chief Financial Officer,  has been named Interim Gainesville City Manager and will begin her duties on July 3.

The current city manager, Kip Padgett, announced recently he is resigning to accept a similar position in Wake Forest, North Carolina.

Mayor Danny Dunagan said Thursday Marlowe was chosen to temporarily fill the post for a number of reasons.

"There were many qualified, but with her almost 20 years experience and her financial background, et cetera, we just felt like for the temporary position, she was the best one for the job."

Marlowe has worked for the city since 1996. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration in Accounting from North Georgia College (now University of North Georgia) and graduated from North Hall High School.

The city council is expected to confirm the appointment at a meeting on June 2.   Mayor Dunagan said the city will begin taking applications on July 1 for a permanent successor to Padgett and the application process will close on July 31.

From there, the mayor Said the number of applicants will be narrowed to 10 and then five, who will be interviewed.
