G-Braves SS faces rape, kidnapping charges in Ohio

COLUMBUS, OH—A Gwinnett Braves baseball player is facing rape and kidnapping charges after an incident on the team's road series in Columbus, Ohio over the weekend.

Shortstop Elmer Reyes, 24, reportedly met up with two women for drinks at a local restaurant following Saturday night's 6-1 win, according to WXIA in Atlanta.

Reyes allegedly told the victims they had too much to drink, and they shouldn't drive home. He paid for a room at the team's hotel, the Crown Plaza Columbus-Downtown, for the pair.

The victim alleged that Reyes came into the women's room in the early morning hours Sunday morning, making sexual advances at the victim while her friend was asleep.

Reyes allegedly pinned the woman down, forced her legs apart, and raped her.

The woman managed to fight Reyes off, and run to the bathroom as he followed her, apologizing.

She was able to call 911 and wake her friend up, according to a police report.

Reyes was arrested and posted a $50,000 bond.

The Braves organization has declined comment at this time.

The Nicaraguan native has been in the minor leagues since 2009, according to his bio on the G-Braves website.
