Storms moving through North Georgia, weaken throughout the week

UNDATED - A storm system moving through North Georgia is the same one that caused serious damage in Texas and Oklahoma.

AccessWDUN Meteorologist Gary Best appeared on the Afternoon News Wrap Tuesday and said the storms we're seeing are a much weaker version than the ones out west.

"We're still looking at some hefty storms out there, this is not enough to promote any severe thunderstorm watches or tornado watches, but these are impulse storms," Best said. He described impulse storms as ones that would bring heavy downpours, high winds and maybe some small hail.

"There may be some more showers and storms, though they will be greatly diminished once we lose the heating of the sun," Best explained further. "Over the next several days, this is going to be an unsettled pattern. This could happen again tomorrow."

Best said that for the rest of the week, more showers, gusty winds and some small hail are possible, but they'll weaken. "We'll still have a chance of scattered showers and thunderstorms over the next several days."

Best assured that the chance of tornadoes is slim to none, and right now the storms are not rotating. He said the worst of it will likely be downpours, gusty winds and small hail.
