Gwinnett PD looking for man accused of stealing doctor's ID, practicing optometry

DULUTH - Gwinnett County Police are looking for a man who has reportedly stolen the financial identity of a doctor to perform optometry.

A release issued by the GCPD said Choon Kyung Kim reportedly used the financial identity of Dr. Alton Provost since 2009 to provide optometry exams for multiple patients.

Provost contacted police on April 30, after he began receiving collection phone calls and letters from several medical insurance providers about procedures rendered by Kim using Provost's identity.

The Gwinnett Police Electronic and Financial Crimes Unit served a search warrant at Kim's office on Satellite Boulevard and collected approximately 30 boxes of evidence.

Research of the evidence collected resulted in confirmation of Dr. Provost's allegations. Kim has been charged with seven counts of identity fraud, seven counts of insurance fraud, and seven counts of practicing optometry without a license.

At this point, Kim's whereabouts are unknown. If you see Kim, or have further information, please contact GCPD Electronic and Financial Crimes Unit detectives at 770-513-5300 or CrimeStoppers at  404-577-TIPS.
