Ribbon-cutting Thursday for public education museum

FLOWERY BRANCH - The Georgia Education Museum in Flowery Branch will celebrate the museum's progress this week with a ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The museum, when completed, will be the only public education museum in the state. Officials will cut the ribbon at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, April 30.

The ongoing work to the museum will be completed in three phases. Phase One will house the state headquarters for the Georgia Retired Educators Association. Phase Two and Three will offer a meeting and reception space, as well as the museum, according to a press release.

The release states that the mission of the museum is "to create and showcase a visual and virtual archival collection to preserve the history of public education in Georgia, to inspire interest in public education among all ages, to promote education as an honored profession and to honor notable Georgians whose distinguished records confirm their commitment to public education."

The museum is located on a 2.4 acre site across the street from the Atlanta Falcons training center at 4311 Falcon Parkway. It was purchased in 2011 from the Hall County School Board by the Georgia Retired Educators Museum Board.
