Golf: Dawson Co. sweeps 7-AAA titles; Vikings' Cooper takes low medal honors

The Dawson County boys and girls swept to the team titles on Monday in the Region 7-AAA golf championships.

Meanwhile, East Hall's Triston Cooper claimed boys low medalist honors, while Dawson's Madison Caldwell did the same on the girls side.

Cooper fired a 75 through regulation and then notched the individual victory in a playoff.

Dawson County's boys fired a team score of 314, led by a 76 from Hunter Birch. Justin Moore also carded a 78, while Jake Phillips shot 79. David Ford rounded things out with an 81, finishing in front of Franklin County's 320 (the Lions qualified for state sectionals). The Tigers qualified directly for the Class AAA championships on May 18 at Brookfield Country Club in Roswell.

Dawson County girls shot a 277 to win their team title -- paced by a low medal round of 77 from Madison Caldwell. Tatum Pruitt also posted a 98, while Sydney Morgan carded a 102. The Lady Tigers advance to the Class AAA tournament on May 18 at Horseshoe Bend Country Club in Roswell.

Franklin County also finished second on the girls side with a 317, also qualifying for state sectionals.
