Two teens killed in White County wreck

By Rob Moore
CLEVELAND - The Georgia State Patrol has released some information about a wreck that claimed two lives west of Cleveland Sunday.

Cpl. Auston Allen of GSP Post 6 in Gainesville said the wreck happened on Gene Nix Road, involving a 1997 Saturn SL four-door car that was traveling north on Gene Nix Road approaching Santa Pera Drive.

The car traveled off the left side (west shoulder) of the roadway at the bridge for Town Creek.

Allen said the car did not strike the bridge rail, but vaulted off into the creek. The car struck nose first, overturned and sank.

Allen classified the water in the creek at that location as "well over head high," noting, "the only parts of the vehicle you could see were the wheels and tires."

Allen said troopers aren't sure when the wreck happened

It was discovered and reported by a passerby at 10:13 a.m. Sunday.

Allen identified the driver as 18-year-old Taylor Swing of Cleveland.

Swing and his female passenger, identified as Cecily Hamilton, 16, of Cleveland, were pronounced dead at the scene, Allen said.

Dr. Jeff Wilson, White County school superintendent, said Sunday afternoon they will have extra counselors on hand Monday to take care of the students.

Wilson said a crisis management team will be meeting Monday morning to plan its actions.
