Hall County early voting comes to a close

GAINESVILLE - Early voting is wrapping up for Hall County for a referendum election taking place next week.

Elections Director Charlotte Sosebee said the early voting turnout was steady this time around.

"At the close of business yesterday (Thursday), we had a total of 1,586 voters who had cast ballots in the early and advanced voting process, and as of 2:25 today (Friday), it's been 102 people that have come in to our office to cast a ballot," said Sosebee.

Sosebee said the numbers were comparable to the last similar election. "In our last SPLOST election in 2009, our total of early voters was 1,709." Sosebee said the last election had about a 9.3% turnout. Shortly after 5 p.m., Sosebee released the following numbers:

Early/Advance Voters: 1,721
Absentee Ballots Mailed: 174
Absentee Ballots Received: 94

The wintery weather didn't hinder numbers, Sosesbee said. "Even when the weather was bad, we had voters coming in the office."

Sosebee also wanted to remind voters, especially Gainesville City voters, to go to their county voting precinct location on Tuesday.

Sosebee said the numbers were fair and she's not expecting a large turnout for Tuesday, but she'd like to see everyone come out and cast their votes.
