Commerce wreck critically injures child

COMMERCE - A child and three other people were injured in a two-vehicle wreck in Jackson County Tuesday afternoon.

Jackson County EMA Director Steve Nichols said in a release that the accident happened just before 3 p.m. on Highway 441 at Highway 98 in Commerce.

Nichols said the victims had to be extricated from the wreck between and SUV and a car.

"One was a juvenile, a younger child that was transported emergency to Athens Regional Medical Center. The child was listed as critical," Nichols said.

The other three victims were also transported to Athens Regional. Nichols described those victims' conditions as guarded to stable.

Nichols said the Georgia State Patrol is handling the investigation. The road re-opened around 5 p.m.
