Corps outlines process for Glades public hearing

GAINESVILLE - The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is out with the format for next week's public hearing on the proposed Glades reservoir project in North Hall County.

The hearing in Gainesville comes following a late November announcement that the Corps had extended the public comment period for the project's draft environmental impact statement (DEIS) until February 15, 2016.

Hall County has been planning the proposed reservoir on Flat Creek for several years.

"The Proposed Glades Reservoir would impound approximately 850 acres and provide a total storage volume of 11.7 billion gallons and an annual average water supply of 50 million gallons per day to meet Hall County’s demand through the year 2060," the DEIS executive summary states.

Tuesday's hearing at the Hall County Government Center
Commission Meeting Room runs from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.

The Corps' Savannah District commander, Col. Marvin Griffin, is expected to give a short presentation at 6:00 p.m. followed by comments from the the public, according to the Corps.

"Speakers will be limited to three minutes at the hearing. Those wishing to speak at the hearing must register before the hearing begins," a Corps media release states.

Individuals who want to speak may register at the meeting location beginning at 5:00 p.m. Tuesday.

Corps officials also said a court reporter will be available outside of the hearing room to record verbal comments on the DEIS.  A computer will be provided at the hearing for written comments.

The Corps is also accepting public comment via its website.  The Glades DEIS is posted on the site as well.

The Hall County Government Center is located at 2875 Browns Bridge Road in Gainesville.  The Commission Meeting Room is on the second floor.
