NY man arrested in Gainesville for breaking into cars

GAINESVILLE—A New York man is behind bars on multiple entering auto charges in the Riverside Drive area of Gainesville.

According to a news release from Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook, Collin Matthew Brown of Auburn, New York was arrested Thanksgiving Day around 4:00 p.m.

"We were able to close several entering auto cases," said Holbrook.

He said the Brown may have moved to this area, and that the incidents may not be isolated to the Riverside Drive area. It's possible more victims could be out there.

More charges are expected in the investigation.

"The Gainesville Police Department has focused efforts on curbing entering autos during the holiday season, working on new progressive and proactive ways to protect our citizens. GPD will continue efforts such as utilizing unmarked vehicles and covert operations to seek out those committing these types of crimes," said Holbrook.

Authorities say it's a good idea not to leave valuables in your car, but if you, put them out of sight and keep your vehicle locked.
