Hall deputies arrest robbery suspect

GAINESVILLE - Hall County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a Gainesville man wanted for the robbery of an acquaintance at the victim's home on Tuesday, October 20.

Deputies found Steven Keith Murphy, 28, at an address on Branch Street on Thursday, according to Deputy Nicole Bailes.

"Just through intelligence and speaking with informants, we were able to track down a location for Mr. Murphy."

Authorities had obtained an arrest warrant for Murphy the day after the Myrtle Street robbery.

Because he was acquainted with the victim, Bailes said Murphy had permission to be at the home.

"There is a female that kind of links the two together, and that's the only information that I've been made aware of," Bailes said.

At some point during the visit, investigators believe Murphy wielded a handgun and demanded cash from the homeowner.

He allegedly took cash and a cell phone from the female victim, before scratching her vehicle, cutting its tires and leaving the scene.

Murphy has been charged with criminal trespass, armed robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a gun in a crime and possession of methamphetamine.

Deputies said Murphy had a small amount of meth when they arrested him.

"He was out on bond from an incident that occurred less than eight months ago, involving a firearm and aggravated assault charges," Bailes said.

Murphy is being held without bond and waived his right to a committal hearing.
