Habitat dedicates Flowery Branch home

By AccessWDUN staff

FLOWERY BRANCH - Habitat for Humanity of Hall County celebrated the construction of its 51st home at a dedication ceremony Thursday morning on Sasser Road in Flowery Branch.

The house will be home to Bruce and Maranda Hoover and their three young sons:  Jacob (7), Noah (5), and Eli (2).  It was built on land donated by Bruce's parents, Thomas and Susan Hoover.

“The Habitat experience has been such an incredible journey," Miranda Hoover said.  "Habitat is so much bigger than just building a house.  We will forever support Habitat and their mission to help end poverty housing.  This is an opportunity to give our boys roots where without Habitat, they would’ve had none.  The greatest example of Christ’s love has been demonstrated through Habitat.  Where the world said 'no,' Habitat and God said 'yes.'"

Habitat for Humanity of Hall County Executive Director, Ann Nixon said “Through donations of money, materials and volunteer labor, Habitat for Humanity of Hall County was able to build this home and sell it at an affordable price.  This is an exciting time in the lives of the Hoovers.  A tremendous amount of hard work has been poured into the process thus far.  We are elated to be a part of their new beginning.”

The Hoovers will buy the home for an "affordable" price with a 0%, 20-year mortgage loan financed by Habitat.  The Hoovers have paid closing costs, completed financial education and have volunteered over 500 hours in "sweat equity" as part of the Habitat program.  Their monthly mortgage payments will be used to build future Habitat homes.

12Stone Church participated as a "half-house" sponsor of the Hoovers new home.  Additional funding was received from a Wells Fargo TMV Grant, a North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church Homeless & Housing Fund Grant, The Wynne Foundation, St. Paul United Methodist Church (UMC), Holly Sloan, Zion Hill Baptist Church, the Hussey Family, HH Gregg and Whirlpool.  McDonald’s of Northeast Georgia provided meals for every volunteer on each build day.

Volunteer support was provided by FWC MOPS Group, Faithful Few, Liberty Mutual, Lowe’s, Alpharetta Children’s Dentistry & Orthodontics, Highlands UMC, Crossfit Gwinnett, Browns Bridge Community Church, St. Paul UMC Men’s Group, Up With People, Steve & Kelley Sims, and HabitatHigh under the direction of Rodney Presley.

“Our volunteers are our backbone,” Building Director Tim Williams noted. “Without them, nothing could get done, but they also want to be part of getting to know the family. That’s not just building a home, that’s nurturing a community.”

The Hoover family has been lifelong residents of Hall County.
