Benefit yard sale set Saturday for injured Elbert deputy

ELBERTON - A fundraiser for an Elbert County deputy seriously injured in an on-duty patrol car wreck is set for Saturday, Oct. 17, in Elberton.

The Deputy Justin Greene Benefit Community Yard Sale will be held from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the former Claude Ray Ford lot on Elbert Street.

Greene was en route to assist another agency with a fight in progress when he was involved in a vehicle crash on Wednesday night, Sept. 30.

The Elberton Westside Neighborhood Watch has decided that all proceeds from Saturday's event will go to Greene, who remains hospitalized.

Donnie Kesler made and donated a wooden swing, and it will be awarded to the top bidder during a silent auction at the Elbert County Sheriff's Office tent. Bids on the swing will be accepted from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Elbert County Sheriff's Office will be selling hamburger plates for $5.

Call ahead to reserve a rental space for the yard sale. Contact Joe McGuffin at (706) 498-0821. Mark Geter at (706) 474-1948, or Elbert County Sheriff's Office at (706) 283-2421.

Those unable to attend Saturday's event still can make a donation through the GoFundMe account established for Greene at https://www.gofundme.com/pb5h4hvb.
