Three hurt in Habersham head-on wreck

TOCCOA - The Georgia State Patrol has released details of a head-on wreck that injured three people between Demorest and Clarkesville Saturday morning.

Trooper 1st Class John Crawford said the two-vehicle wreck happened at 11:09 a.m. on Historic Highway 441 in the area of Kandy Kane Preschool near Church Sawmill Road.

A silver Dodge Caravan driven by 27-year-old Marshall Seth Burns of Alto was traveling north on Historic Highway 441 and hydroplaned during a downpour of rain, Crawford said.

The mini-van collided head-on with a dark blue Chevrolet pickup work truck  driven by 34-year-old ThomasAustin Anton Parkey of Toccoa.

Parkey suffered what Crawford termed a serious leg injury and was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

Parkey's 1-year-old, Ashton Parkey, who was properly restrained in a forward facing car seat, suffered a cut to the head and was taken to NGMC, Crawford said.

Burns complained of a shoulder injury and was taken by ambulance to Habersham Medical Center. He was cited for tire requirements (slick tires) and failure to maintain lane, Crawford said.

The wreck shut down Historic Highway 441 until just before 2 p.m.
