Fire damages southside Gainesville residence

By Ken Stanford Contributing Editor

GAINESVILLE - Gainesville fire investigators are looking for the cause of a Friday night fire that damaged a vacant house on the southside of town.

"Our personnel from Station One saw the smoke and advised radio they were going out for investigation," fire department spokesman Keith Smith said.  "Upon arrival they did find a one-story residence with a basement with flames and smoke showing."

Smith said the blaze, at 223 Summit Street, was contained to a room on the back side of the house, but there was smoke and heat damage throughout.
