ATLANTA - The widening of a five-mile section of Bethleview Road in Forsyth County - which will include a bridge over Big Creek - is a step closer to reality.

The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has awarded the contract for the work to C-M-E-S Inc. of Norcross.  The widening and reconstruction of the road between Castleberry Road and Georgia 20 - at a cost of nearly $37 million - is not expected to be finished until the summer of 2019.

GDOT officials say the project will improve safety and capacity through widening, alignment modifications, and the addition of a raised median and turn lanes.  They add it represents almost $50 million of investment in Forsyth County which includes right-of way (ROW) acquisition and design costs.

The Forsyth County project was the largest among 24 contracts, totaling $67 million, recently approved by the state DOT board.
