ATHENS - University of Georgia President Jere Morehead delivered the annual State of the University speech Wednesday.

Morehead said pay raises for faculty and staff were important, and despite merit pay raises last year, more needed to be done.

"The University of Georgia still lags behind regional and national peers in that regard," said Morehead. "That is why improving salaries for faculty and staff will remain a top priority for the foreseeable future."

Morehead also touched on fee freezes. "I'm pleased to announce today that the university will extend the freeze on food services and parking rates for our students through the 2015-2016 academic year," Morehead said.

"Together, we will create a future for this institution defined by unparalleled learning opportunities for students; by world changing research and scholarship; by strong ties to communities throughout Georgia and beyond; and by responsible planning and management of our precious resources," Morehead concluded.
