Athens officer wounded in shooting incident

ATHENS - An officer with the Athens-Clarke County Police Department was shot and wounded while responding to a domestic disturbance Sunday.<br /> <br /> According to a report in the Athens Banner Herald, Senior Officer Michael Ward suffered a single gunshot wound when he and a suspect got into a struggle outside the Fairways at Jennings Mill apartments. <br /> <br /> Authorities saID the suspect, 28-year-old James Marcantonio, tried to grab Officer Ward's gun and the weapon discharged.<br /> <br /> Marcantonio faces charges of aggravated assault and aggravated battery on a police officer.<br /> <br /> The officer was treated at the hospital and released.<br /> <br /> The incident occurred just before 12 p.m.<br /> <br /> <br />
