BLAIRSVILLE - A now-former Union County Sheriff's Officer jailer faces sexual assault charges.<br />
Kimberly Williams, special agent in charge of Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 8 in Cleveland, released the information just after 5 p.m. Friday.<br />
"The Union County Sheriff's Office received information that a Union County jailer was involved in inappropriate contact with an inmate on Aug. 19, 2014," Williams said in a statement. "Information learned during an internal investigation prompted Sheriff Mack Mason to request the assistance of the GBI with a criminal investigation on Aug. 26."<br />
Andrew Martin, 36, of Blairsville, referred to by Williams Friday afternoon as a former Union County jailer, was arrested Aug. 27 on sexual assault charges.
