Woman gives birth inside Walmart in Roswell

By The Associated Press
ROSWELL, Ga. (AP) Labor Day came early for a Roswell woman who gave birth inside a Walmart north of Atlanta.

Authorities say the baby made its arrival shortly after 5 a.m. Tuesday in the Walmart Supercenter on Mansell Road in Roswell.

Ken Simpson, regional director for the Rural/Metro ambulance company, says the woman delivered her baby inside the store before paramedics could arrive.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports that the new mother and her baby were taken to Northside Hospital for evaluation.

Walmart officials did not immediately return the Atlanta newspaper's call for comment late Tuesday.

The woman's name wasn't released, and it wasn't immediately known whether she was a customer or an employee.

Walmart Supercenter No. 1578 is about 20 miles north of downtown Atlanta.
