GAINESVILLE - Bids are being taken for construction of nearly three miles of Hall County's multi-use trail, which includes plans for a tunnel under Atlanta Highway.

The Central Hall County Recreation and Multi-Use Trail has been in the planning stages for several years.
County spokeswoman Katie Crumley confirmed Tuesday that bids on a 2.89-mile, twelve-foot wide section of the trail, which includes a pedestrian tunnel under Atlanta Highway near Chicopee and a wooden bridge over Balus Creek, will be received until 3:00 September 23.

The project is part of a larger looped trail system planned to connect downtown Gainesville with the University of North Georgia/Gainesville and and Lanier Technical College campuses near Oakwood.

It is being funded with Special Purpose Local Option Sales Taxes (SPLOST V and VI).
