Nicholson woman killed while checking mailbox

NICHOLSON - An elderly Jackson County woman was killed Monday afternoon when she was struck by a car as she was checking her mailbox, according to emergency responders.<br /> <br /> Jackson County EMS officials said they were called to a home on Old Kings Bridge Road in Nicholson just after 2 p.m. Monday. When they arrived, they found a 79-year-old woman dead at the scene. She had been struck by a vehicle as she attempted to cross the road to get to her mailbox. Authorities said she was thrown down an embankment.<br /> <br /> The Georgia State Patrol identified the victim as Joyce M. Kennan. <br /> <br /> Investigating troopers said the 28-year-old driver returned to the scene. There is no word on whether he will face charges in the case.<br /> <br /> <br />
