Arrest made in Friday shooting of two women

By Marc Eggers Anchor / Reporter
GAINESVILLE - The Gainesville Police Department has charged a Gainesville man with the Friday afternoon shooting of two females at the Atlanta Street Apartments in Gainesville.

Investigators have charged 24-year-old Antwan Xavier Earls with two counts of Aggravated Assault.

Additional charges against Earls may be forthcoming.

Police said Earls was the lone gunman who shot the two women shortly before 3pm.

"This was not a random crime, the victim and or victims were targeted by the shooter," Police Corporal Kevin Holbrook said.

"This case is a prime example of Community Oriented Policing; the community played a vital role in apprehending the shooter," Holbrook added.

Holbrook said that at least one of the women was in critical condition at the Northeast Georgia Medical Center.

"The community provided officers and investigators with information that subsequently led them to Earls as the shooter. It is important in cases of this nature that we, the police department and the citizens work together to combat crime and violence to ensure safety for everyone in our community."

Holbrook said that the relationship between Earls and the women is not being released as it is a part of the investigation.

The Hall County Sheriff's Office and the Hall County District Attorney's Office assisted in this case.
