Volleyball: East Hall sweeps in Eastside

COVINGTON -- The East Hall girls volleyball team opened its season with a perfect 5-0 afternoon in a tournament at Eastside.<br /> <br /> The Lady Vikings beat Newton 25-10,25-17, Eastside 25-14, 25-13, Heritage Conyers 30-28, 25-19, East Jackson 25-18,25-12 and Alcovy 25-18,25-14.<br /> <br /> Jessica Chmiel had six aces, 12 kills, two blocks and three digs. Minette Maldonado had added 11 kills and six digs, Ashleigh Burnett scored 42 points on serve to go with 23 aces, four assists, 22 kills and 21 digs, and Emily Roberts had 14 kills, one assist, four digs and two blocks for East Hall.<br /> <br /> Allyson Segars had 22 points on serve with 13 aces, 20 kills, and eight digs, Savannah Lindsey had 17 points on serve, two aces, six assists, two kills and 52 digs, and Cassida Shockley had 23 points on serve with 14 aces, 14 kills, 12 digs and 63 assists.<br /> <br /> Julissa Flores had four aces, one assist and two digs, Clarissa Flores had seven aces, five assists, two kills and 10 digs, Lorna Ayon had 10 digs. <br /> Holly Poole added thee kills four digs while Lauren Pope added two kills in their first ever varsity games.<br /> <br /> East Hall next will play on Tuesday at home against Jackson County, Gilmer and Flowery Branch beginning at 5 p.m.
