HOMER - An absconded sex offender who fled from Banks County deputies in the Banks Crossing area Friday afternoon has been arrested.

Sgt. Carissa McFaddin said deputies went to a hotel at Banks Crossing about 3:45 p.m. Friday to arrest William Andrew Towe, who was supposed to be living at that hotel.

Towe fled the area on foot upon deputies' arrival.

Banks County Sheriff's Office K-9 Unit, with the assistance of Lee Arrendale State Prison K-9 Unit, conducted a ground search for Towe, while a helicopter from the Georgia State Patrol searched from the air.

"Towe was tracked to a business inside Jackson County, but fled before authorities could detain him," McFaddin said.

McFaddin said that at 8:49 a.m. Saturday, Banks County deputies learned that Towe was at a home in Commerce.

Towe was located at the home by deputies, who arrested him for obstruction of officers and failure to register as a sex offender.

He was booked in at the Banks County Sheriff's Office Law Enforcement Center.
