No injuries in I-985 tractor trailer fire

FLOWERY BRANCH - Authorities blocked the southbound lanes of Interstate 985 at the Spout Springs Road exit Thursday afternoon while crews battled a tractor trailer fire to the south.

Hall County Fire Marshal Scott Cagle said they received a call from the rig driver at about 3:15 p.m. "He was traveling southbound on 985
and started noticing smoke and did call 911 noticing that the tractor of his tractor trailer was starting to catch fire."

Cagle said the trailer part of the semi-truck was unaffected by the fire and the cargo - bread - was undamaged during the fire. "We don't have a value right now, but [the fire] appears to be mechanical in nature," said Cagle. He also said there were no injuries, but the tractor was a total loss.

According to Hall County 911 dispatchers, the rig fire was off to the side of the Interstate near Lanier Islands Parkway.

Authorities opened one southbound lane at Lanier Islands Parkway around 3:40 p.m. Southbound traffic remained blocked to the north at Spout Springs Road. Northbound lanes are all open.

Cagle said there was a 50 gallon diesel fuel leak, which was cleaned up, and the road was re-opened around 5:30 Thursday afternoon.
