Tree falls, injures two tubers in Helen

CLEVELAND - Sunday was a busy day for White County and Helen emergency personnel.<br /> <br /> Around 3 p.m., a passing storm toppled a tree near Cool River Tubing in Helen.<br /> <br /> "This time of the year many visitors flock to the tubing companies for relief from the heat and the fun experience," said White County Public Safety Director David Murphy. "The tree fell, injuring two people, however they were treated and released from the scene."<br /> <br /> The day had begun with a 9-year-old boy being airlifted from Camp Coleman in Cleveland after falling from a bunk bed in a cabin. That call was received from the camp around 7:30 a.m. <br /> <br /> The child was flown to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite.<br /> <br /> Around 11 a.m., a 33-year-old man was injured from an apparent fall on a bike trail at Unicoi State Park.<br /> <br /> "Rescuers had to walk in to where the patient was located on a trail near Unicoi," Murphy said. "First responders had to use an all-terrain vehicle and stokes basket to remove the patient for transport to the hospital."
