ATLANTA - An embattled day care facility in Clermont will forego an appeal to remain open as an investigation moves forward into an incident in which a child was burned while in the care of workers at the center.
In a Tuesday night email, Reg Griffin with the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning said the attorney for Discovering Basics withdrew an appeal for a hearing. The hearing had been scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Wednesday. As a result, DECAL's emergency closure of the day care center is effective Wednesday morning.
Discovering Basics will be closed for at least 21 days.
Three people - including the owner of the day care - have been charged in the days since 18-month-old Damon Gaddis received second and third degree burns.
