13-year-old killed while riding bicycle in Lawrenceville

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA - A 13-year-old riding his bicycle on Club Drive was hit and killed Wednesday around 2:00 p.m., according to Gwinnett Police.<br /> <br /> The Gwinnett County Police Accident Investigation Unit is investigating the incident.<br /> <br /> According to a press release, the preliminary investigation indicates the boy, identified as Justin Shaw of Lawrenceville, was riding his bike downhill on Woodstream Drive, and went through the stop sign as he attempted to turn onto Club Drive.<br /> <br /> Authorities said 49-year-old Cynthia Hopkins, of Lawrenceville, was driving down Club Drive and hit the brakes, but couldn't stop in time, hitting Shaw.<br /> <br /> The initial collision knocked Shaw into oncoming traffic, where he was hit by a second vehicle, driven by 24-year-old Wei Chen of Lawrenceville.<br /> <br /> Shaw was transported by ambulance to Gwinnett Medical Center, and then flown to Egleston Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 6:40 p.m.<br /> <br /> <br /> According the release, no charges are expected to be filed in the case.<br />
