Canton couple dead from apparent murder-suicide

By The Associated Press
CANTON - Police say they believe a Cherokee County couple died in a murder-suicide.

Lt. Jay Baker of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office says in an emailed statement that police found 51-year-old Cary Landers and 41-year-old Katherine Landers dead at a home in Canton, Ga. on Friday afternoon. Baker says evidence at the scene indicates that Landers shot his wife in the face before killing himself. Landers was found with a gunshot wound in his mouth.

Baker says Katherine Landers was charged in March with battery against her husband. A condition of her bond was not to have contact with him.

Autopsies of both bodies are scheduled at the GBI Crime Lab.
