Clemency hearing set for Ga. death row inmate

ATLANTA - A clemency hearing has been set for a Georgia man convicted of raping and murdering a teenage girl set to be executed next month.<br /> <br /> The State Board of Pardons and Paroles has invited representatives for Marcus Wellons to advocate for clemency for him on June 16 at 9 a.m. Wellons is set to be executed June 17 at 7 p.m. at the Georgia Diagnostic and Classification Prison in Jackson.<br /> <br /> Wellons was convicted in 1993 in the death of his 15-year-old neighbor, India Roberts, a high school sophomore from the Atlanta suburbs.<br /> <br /> Authorities say Wellons raped and strangled the teen. Roberts' naked body was found in a wooded area near the apartment building with cuts on one side of her face and ear, and bruises on her neck.
