High school tells students to get TB tests

By The Associated Press
MARIETTA, Ga. (AP) Marietta High School officials are asking about 500 students and faculty members to take time off from their summer break to be tested for tuberculosis.

The Marietta Daily Journal reports that the students and employees are being contacted after someone at Marietta High tested positive for tuberculosis infection.

A letter sent to the 500 students states that the testing is mandatory, and students must prove they received the testing before they will be permitted to return to school or any school-related activities, such as summer school, sports or camps. The students can be tested by their own doctor or be tested at the school.

School system spokeswoman Sommer Delgado said 500 students were chosen because officials believe they were in ``close contact'' with the person who tested positive.
