SOCIAL CIRCLE - A boating accident on Lake Lanier Sunday left two people with minor injuries, according to the Georgia Department of Natural Resources' Law Enforcement Division.

The accident happened near Van Pugh Park and like one that occurred Saturday involved a personal watercraft (PWC) and a boat. The accident on Saturday occurred near Shoal Creek.

Also on Lanier Sunday, DNR says a pontoon boat caught fire near Bald Ridge Creek and a boat sank near Aqualand Marina. There were no injuries in either incident.

A boating accident on Lake Hartwell resulted in no injuries, but minor injuries were reported in a tubing accident on West Point Lake.

Statewide, for the first two days of the three-day Memorial Day weekend, DNR said there were two drownings, one in Lake Allatoona (see separate story) and one in the Atlantic Ocean off Tybee Island. In addition, 24 people had been charged with boating-under-the-influence cases (BUIs).
