Hall Co Commission honors Johnson boys soccer

By Staff
The Johnson boys soccer team made history this season. And on Thursday night the Hall County Commission honored that history.

The Commission brought the Knights before a meeting to recognize their run to the Class AAAA championship game.

And though Johnson fell 2-0 to Dalton in the title showdown it couldn't stop a campaign in which the Knights reached the school's first ever championship game -- in any sport.

Johnson won the Region 8-AAAA title and set the school record for wins in a campaign, going 21-2.

"The bar is set (high) now, and we've got a good middle school and feeder program, so hopefully we can come in here next year and build on this," Knights coach Brian Shirley said after the championship game.

Shirley must replace 11 seniors on the squad, including five starters. And while Johnson also returns a number of key underclassmen, the Knights will be forever indebted to the class of 2014.

"The whole school is proud of these guys; they did something that's never been done before, and they'll realize what an incredible season this was," Shirley said. "They worked their tails off, and they're just a great group of guys."
