GAINESVILLE, GA - The Hall County Commission, in a 3-2 decision, approved funding for a new county website Thursday night.
The new site will cost $77,778, and will feature a mobile app. The project will be run by Civic Plus, a Kansas-based company that specializes in government websites.
The company made the Athens-Clarke County website, among others.
"The new website will really cater to citizens, more than is has in the past," said Hall County Public Information Officer Katie Crumley.
Jeff Stowe, one of the votes against the plan, says they should have explored a local vendor instead.
He had a team explore just that. Every feature Civic Plus could do, so could a local vendor, Stowe said.
How the long-term pricing played out ultimately swayed the vote. Civic Plus offers free upgrades for life, according to Tim Sims, who presented the plan to the Commission.
The local vendor would charge for every additional upgrade.
Additionally, any upgrade that gets passed down to Athens-Clarke County would also pass to Hall County, free of charge.
"The website will take between 16 and 24 weeks to complete," said Crumley.
She said citizens can expect the new website and mobile app to be ready by early 2015.
