Chestatee selects Pittman to take over boys basketball

By Staff
GAINESVILLE -- The the turnover for Chestatee High athletics produced a new boys basketball coach on Wednesday, as principal Suzanne Jarrard and athletic director Ben Corley announced that Chad Pittman will take over the program.

Pittman is the fifth head coach the War Eagles have hired this spring, joining new leaders in the football, wrestling, softball and girls track programs.

Upon Hall County School Board of Education approval, Pittman will replace Coach Gary Barnes, who recently resigned his position with the school to accept a teaching and coaching opportunity in his home state of Tennessee.

"Coach Pittman's is a great fit for Chestatee. He brings a wealth of experience and a ton of energy to our basketball program," Jarrard said. "His positive attitude is contagious and we know he will have an immediate impact on our school and our community as well as our basketball team."

Since 2010, Chad Pittman, a 1991 graduate of Johnson High School, has served as head girls basketball coach at Duluth High School in Gwinnett County. His teams at Duluth have made four consecutive GHSA state tournament appearances with this year's team advancing to the second round of the Class AAAAAA bracket. Prior to Duluth, Coach Pittman held the same position at Jackson County High School from 2001-10. He began his career in education in 1996 as a math teacher and assistant boys basketball coach at Johnson High School.

"I am really excited and humbled by the opportunity given to me by Mrs. Jarrard and Mr. Corley at Chestatee," Pittman said. "Hall County has always been home for me... my family, friends, and church have always been here. There are lots of good folks in Hall County that have had a hand in molding me into who I am today. Chestatee does a great job balancing academics and athletics, and the administration and faculty show terrific support for all programs. Mrs. Jarrard made it clear that she wants only the best for Chestatee in all areas and that is the expectation, which I appreciate and respect. Also, I hear that the community support for the school's athletic programs is outstanding. Chestatee will be my new extended family, especially the boys' basketball players. This will not be 'my' program but 'our' program, and I look forward to working with these quality young men in building something special."

Pittman and his wife Lee Ann have two sons: Brady, age 11, and Bryce, age 6.
