Driver charged with death of Jefferson man in Rabun

By Rob Moore Reporter
CLAYTON - A Jefferson man died of injuries in a two-vehicle wreck in Rabun County Sunday afternoon, and an Atlanta woman has been charged in his death.

Trooper 1st Class Casey Coffee of Georgia State Patrol Post 7 in Toccoa said Randall Laverne Turner, 55, of Jefferson was riding his 2004 Kawasaki ZG-1000 west on Georgia Highway 2 (U.S. Highway 76).

A 2006 Toyota Prius driven by 59-year-old Carol Ouzts Cordray of Atlanta was traveling south on Hawthorne Lane Private Drive, when Cordray failed to yield while attempting to turn left onto Georgia 2, Coffee said.

The motorcycle struck the front of the car, which came to final rest on the south shoulder facing east. The motorcycle came to final rest on its left side facing north in the westbound lane of Georgia 2, Coffee said.

Turner died at the scene.

Cordray is charged by GSP with failure to yield while entering or crossing the roadway, and with homicide by vehicle in the second degree.

The wreck happened about 4:25 p.m. several miles west of Clayton.
